What is the DoDEA?

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA):

Operates 181 schools which are located in 7 states, 14 countries and 2 US territories
Serves about 78,000 PK-12 students, the majority of which are military dependents
Over 90% (1.2 million) of the school-aged children of military families in the US attend public schools not administered by the DoDEA
In 2008, the National Defense Authorization Act authorized the DoDEA to share resources with public schools that educate military-connected students
Authorized to provide grants to schools that meet criteria guidelines and who have approved plans for spending the grant money
- In 2018, Awarded $29M in grants to 36 military-connected public school districts across 20 states
