In the spring of 2016, Derby Public Schools received a three-year grant from the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) in the amount of $1.7 million. The purpose of the grant is to increase enrollment in AP courses in Math, Science and English and to increase the success of students on AP exams. The grant pays half the exam fees for students in those courses and rewards students who earn qualifying scores.

Their hard work was recognized during a recent pep assembly at Derby High School and each received a $100 check for a qualifying score on an AP exam. For perspective, passing one AP exam provides a tuition savings of $2,400 if you are attending the University of Kansas or Kansas State University.
