Summary: At the October 14 Board of Education meeting, staff from El Paso Elementary were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools.

Summary: Amy Bliss, volunteer, and Jeff Ohmes, staff, are the September recipients of the I Make A Difference Award.

Derby Public Schools Teachers Recognized as Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominees at Board of Education Meeting on September 23
Summary: Holly Wills, Cooper Elementary, and Kimberly Stucky, Derby North Middle School, were recognized as the Derby Public Schools 2020 Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominees.

September 19 - Derby High School Student Named 2020 National Merit Semifinalist
Summary: Derby High School senior Garrett Busey was named a National Merit Semifinalist!
Students become National Merit Semifinalists by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test during their junior year and scoring in the top one-half of one percent in the state.

 • September 19 - Derby Public Schools To Participate in Kansas Kids’ Fitness Day on September 25, 2019
Summary: All Derby Public Schools third graders will participate in Kansas Kids’ Fitness Day, a statewide annual event that promotes an awareness of fitness and encourages students to live a healthy, active lifestyle. 

September 10 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the September 9 Board of Education meeting, staff from Wineteer Elementary were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools. 

August 29 - Save the Date! Board of Education Candidate Forum, October 1, 6:30-8:30PM
Summary: Derby Public Schools has four positions on the Board of Education open for four-year terms and one position open for an unexpired, two-year term in the November 5 election. A Board of Education candidate forum will be held on October 1 from 6:30-8:30PM at Derby City Hall’s council chambers, 611 N. Mulberry Road. The forum is sponsored by the Derby National Education Association (DNEA) and the Derby Public Schools Board of Education. Each candidate running for election is invited to participate in the event and a moderator from the Kansas National Education Association will guide the forum so the community can learn more about each candidate. The candidates are Don Adkisson, Althea Arvin, Ron Chronister, Pamela Doyle, Matt Hoag, Lauren Ignowski, Matthew Joyce, Tina Prunier and Mark Tillison.

August 13 - Ten Kansas schools recognized by KSDE’s Civic Advocacy Network
Summary: Swaney Elementary has been designated a School of Excellence by KSDE's Civic Advocacy Network (CAN). Derby High School was identified as a School of Promising Practice.

July 1 - Experience Driving a School Bus During "Try-it-Out" Days at Panther Stadium
Summary: The Transportation Department at Derby Public Schools is sponsoring two “Try-it-Out” days for persons interested in experiencing driving a bus.  

June 14 - 2nd Annual Derby Public Schools Job Fair To Be Held July 12, 12:00-3:00PM
Summary: Derby Public Schools will hold it's 2nd Annual Job Fair: We Want You! on Friday, July 12, 12:00-3:00PM in the Derby Middle School Media Center. Hiring for all open positions, both classified and certified.
